After 22 years of business partnership from 1999 to 2021, and even longer of working together, Graham & Debbie Hornsey bought out Wayne & Shelley's half share of Matamata Butchery Limited and now own the shop fully.

 

Matamata Butchery Limited was established in 1999 by Graham and Wayne along with their wives, at that time operating from Arawa Street. Prior to that the butchery had been operated by Wayne & Shelley and by other local butchers before them. Soon afterwards we moved the homekill operations to Firth Street, just keeping the retail premises in town. As town became busier we made the decision to move the retail operation to Firth Street and run from one premises again as there would be plenty of parking for our customers.

We operate a dual butchery so we not only have our retail operation but also do homekill animals (beef, sheep, pigs) for our rural community.  Due to this we operate under MPI with regular audits and high standards to uphold.

 

We like to think that we provide quality meat at competitive prices. If you buy quality then you’ll find it goes further and makes for better eating. If you can’t see something at first glance then please ask because we’re only too happy to help - we can’t always fit everything in the window that is actually available.
